Sometimes, the long journey of a couple through different types of therapy does not end with childbirth. For such patients, one of the effective alternatives is the prenatal adoption of an embryo donated by another couple. In our opinion, donation of an embryo is the greatest gift that can be received from parents who already enjoy having their own baby.

If you are interested in this option, we explain how this procedure works:

Stage one
After the medical consultation, evaluation of the previous treatment and the decision on health status, the couple is qualified to start the procedure of embryo adoption. The doctor provides comprehensive information on each stage of embryo adoption.

Stage two
At this stage, embryo recipients fill in forms with information on their height, weight, body build, complexion, hair colour, eye colour and ethnicity. The blood type of adoptive parents is necessary information for making the choice of an embryo.
The embryo and recipients are matched for blood type and details specified in the form.

Stage three
If the proposed embryo is accepted, we begin preparation for the transfer of the adopted embryo. The transfer of the embryo can be done in a natural cycle or a cycle stimulated with medications, such as tablets or special patches containing natural oestrogens and progesterone. During the preparation of the endometrium, ultrasound assessment of the endometrial growth is usually necessary around days 10 and 14 of the cycle. The aim of this is to guarantee optimal conditions inside the uterus for the reception of the adopted embryo.

Stage four
Embryo transfer is a painless procedure done under transabdominal ultrasound guidance and takes up to 10 minutes. The adoptive mother should come to the clinic with a full bladder to facilitate the procedure. Embryo transfer can be watched on a specially prepared screen. The moment of embryo transfer is very emotional; the adoptive mother can ask for her partner to be present during the procedure, and we will do our best to let you spend this special moment together. After embryo transfer you can leave the clinic and resume your normal lifestyle.

Stage five
For at least ten to twenty days you will continue taking medication. On day 11 after the procedure we recommend taking the b-hCG blood test (pregnancy test) and contacting your doctor in charge or a midwife.

According to the Act of 25 June 2015 on the treatment of infertility in Poland, the Prenatal Embryo Adoption programme is only available to an adoptive mother who:

a) is married

b) is in cohabitation
– in such case the male partner shall make a written declaration that will be valid for 14 months.
